The Online Artist: 2-day workshop

Introduction to Online Marketing- Making Flickr Work for You- In depth Tools and Options for Online Marketing. The purpose of this workshop is to give all participants an introduction of the various platforms for launching an online presence. This will include an overview of blogs, Facebook, Flickr and personal websites. We will be going over how best to market yourself online and how to spread the word about your online presence. I’ll be going over the dos and don’ts of internet marketing as well as giving people a clearer idea of what information they want to present online. I’ll give participants concrete examples of how
to market themselves from the perspective of an artist. Participants are encouraged to show the group their own website if they already have one, and as a group we’ll go over the things they’ve done well and what can be improved.

We will go over how to make Flickr, an online image sharing website, work for you as an artist. Flickr allows you to share images online, network with other artists and have your work discovered by others all over the globe. We will be starting with creating new Flickr accounts for participants if they don’t already have one, and going through the basics of managing your images online. We will deal with how to organize your images, how to showcase them to others via a website or blog, and how to use Flickr as a powerful marketing tool. Members are encouraged to create a Flickr account ahead of time at www.flickr.com, but if they are unable to, please at least sign up for a Yahoo ID at www.yahoo.ca which you will need to sign up for a Flickr account. Participants are also asked to bring a small selection of images on a CD or USB key which we will use to practice uploading images to Flickr.

Finally, we will go in depth into the tools and options you have for successfully marketing your online presence. We will go over creating pages and updates for your personal website, traffic tracking tools to monitor your success and best practices to make sure your online presence can easily be found by others. We’ll discuss search engines and how to make them work for you and more advanced ways to use Flickr to add images to your website, blog or Facebook page.

Pre-requisites:
- basic knowledge of internet browsing
- an email address
- working knowledge of Windows
- A CD or USB key with a small selection of your images
